Our #sharetheair campaign continues, with a current focus on Wales’ much-loved coastline and its beautiful beaches.
At the beginning of May 2015, we launched our Smokefree Beaches Toolkit to encourage Local Authorities, Public Health and local communities to work together to introduce voluntary smoking bans on beaches in their local area.
Following the successful implementation of smokefree playgrounds across Wales we are continuing to identify areas where young people congregate and are affected by smoking.
Wales has some of the best beaches in the UK with many qualifying for Blue Flag status. Making these beaches smokefree will have a huge impact on reducing litter and protecting children from second-hand smoke.
It is encouraging to see efforts from the organisation Surfers Against Sewage, who have proposed a smoking ban to combat beach litter.
If you are interested in taking this forward in your area, please contact Jamie Matthews.
